The time has come for a family getaway in the UK, as Oliver hit the 6 month mark and we thought there is no better time for a first adventure! we packed our shit and headed down to East Sussex for an awesome week of hiking, countryside shenanigans and some precious time by the ocean.
I always wanted to explore the South Downs nature reserve area and the picture-perfect Cuckmere Valley, so we chose a tiny medieval village called Alfriston as our base for the week as it was boasting with charm, cute little Tea Rooms and fantastic trails all around it.
When I started planing our vacation a couple of month ago, as always, I immediately started thinking through the viewfinder and was very restless about it, to say the least. see, my old and well loved Canon 5DMKII which I got in 2009 has become quite impossible for me to carry around now that I have a heavy munchkin dangling from me at any given moment, and also, I have been waiting for an upgrade anxiously for more than a year now. I needed something light, very light, full frame only, optionally mirrorless. As probably many out there, I was religiously checking the Fuji Rumors website for a much anticipated release of a FF camera but was pretty disappointed when my dreams went down the gutter. oh well, I thought, I’m done waiting! let’s search for an alternative…. I spent many sleepless nights researching then laying in bed with camera parts floating around in my head til’ the crack of dawn… but at the end, I chose the Sony RX1R as my new trusty digital companion.
If you’re interested in the specs (of course you are!) click here and if you’re not (what are you doing on my blog again?) let me break it down to you; Full frame, Palm size, Zeiss glass. honestly? that’s all I really needed.
I got her a few days before we departed so I really didn’t have time to adjust to her other than taking a few photos here and there and making sure all my settings were correct – it was very much a case of “get out there and see how it goes”.
So how did she preform on her very first serious test-run you ask? well, she exceeded all my expectations and so much more… truly remarkable performance from this nifty little camera.
I will not bore you with technical details because the only thing that will do justice is the shitload of photos you’re about to see. it was so hard to choose as there were so many brilliant ones! I never get that with my 5DMKII so this kind of excitement from a digital machine is quite new to me. judge me not, bitches.
